I Have CKD Stage 3b. Why Doesn’t My Nephro Prescribe Something To Stop The Progression?
I understand your frustration! The truth is, while we can't completely stop CKD progression with IgAN, there are ways to slow it down. Most nephrologists focus on blood pressure control, usually with ACE inhibitors or ARBs, plus lifestyle changes like reducing salt and protein intake. If you haven't discussed these options with your doctor, it's worth asking about them at your next visit. Every patient's situation is unique, and your nephrologist may have specific reasons for their current approach.
Remember to discuss any concerns directly with your healthcare team, as they know your complete medical history and can explain their treatment strategy.
Hi I Have One Kidney As One Died And I Am To Drink At Least 2.5 Litres Of Water A Day.But I Have Had Sickness And Dierreha For The Last 10hr
What can I do to get fluid in to me.Thank you
This is a concerning situation that needs immediate medical attention. Here's why:
- Severe dehydration is dangerous with one kidney
- Your 2.5L water requirement needs adjustment during illness
- Vomiting/diarrhea for 10+ hours can quickly lead to dehydration
Please:
1. Contact your nephrologist immediately
2. Consider urgent care/ER if you can't keep fluids down
3. Try small sips of clear fluids or ice chips
4. Track your urine output
Don't wait to seek help - with IgAN and one kidney, dehydration can be serious.
I Have Been Diagnosed To Have Minimal Change Disease . Proteinuria. I Am Prescribed Wyslone 15mg And Pangraff 3.5mg.
Proteinuria , I am on Wysolone and Pangraff ,Olmin 40, ondero 5mg , Dapavel 10, and Europa 0.5mg.
Is this treatment the right one
The medications you're taking are commonly used for IgAN treatment:
- Wysolone (corticosteroid) helps reduce inflammation
- Pangraff (tacrolimus) is an immunosuppressant
- Olmin and Ondero (blood pressure medications) help protect kidneys
- Dapavel and Europa help manage other IgAN-related symptoms
This combination appears appropriate as it follows standard treatment guidelines for IgAN with proteinuria. However, medication effectiveness should be monitored regularly through blood and urine tests.
Always keep your follow-up appointments so your doctor can monitor your response to these medications and adjust doses if needed.
What Are The Different Stages Of Kidney Disease And What Do They Mean?
Stage 1: Kidneys are damaged but still working well (eGFR 90+). Usually no symptoms, but protein in urine shows early damage.
Stage 2: Mild decrease in kidney function (eGFR 60-89). May have UTIs or slight swelling in hands/feet.
Stage 3: Moderate damage split into:
- 3a (eGFR 45-59): Fatigue, dark urine, swelling, muscle cramps start
- 3b (eGFR 30-44): Same symptoms but more severe
Stage 4: Severe damage (eGFR 15-29) with nausea, vomiting, high blood pressure, anemia.
Stage 5: Kidney failure (eGFR <15) requiring dialysis or transplant. Very serious symptoms need immediate treatment.
Started Noticing Foamy Urine But After Taking Lots Of Water In A Week It Stopped.kidney Test Gfr Is48 But BP Is Controlled But No Otherdrug
This is a valid concern for someone with IgAN. Foamy urine can indicate protein loss through kidneys, a key symptom of IgAN. While increased water intake may have temporarily reduced the appearance, a GFR of 48 indicates moderate kidney function decline. It's positive that your BP is controlled, but please consult your nephrologist soon. They may want to check your urine protein levels and consider additional treatments to protect your kidney function.
Consider bringing a first-morning urine sample to your next appointment for the most accurate protein testing.
Can You Have Lactose Free Milk?
Yes! People with IgAN can generally drink lactose-free milk safely. In fact, getting enough calcium is important for kidney health. However, if you have advanced kidney disease, you may need to monitor your phosphorus intake from dairy products. Always check with your doctor about your specific dietary needs as they vary based on your kidney function.
What Meats, Chicken, Or Fish Is Good To Eat
For IgAN, lean proteins are best:
- Fish: salmon, cod, tilapia (rich in omega-3s)
- Poultry: skinless chicken or turkey breast
- Lean cuts of pork or beef (in moderation)
- Plant proteins: legumes, tofu
Key tips:
- Choose baked/grilled over fried
- Watch portion sizes
- Avoid processed meats
- Consult your doctor about specific protein needs
Always check with your healthcare provider about specific protein amounts, as needs vary based on your kidney function.
What Is The Best Artificial Salt To Use? Is Lo-salt Safe To Use?
For people with IgAN, you should be cautious with salt substitutes like Lo-Salt because they often contain potassium chloride. While reducing sodium is important, your kidneys may have trouble processing high potassium levels. Always check with your nephrologist before using salt substitutes. Instead, try herbs, spices, lemon juice, or garlic for flavor. Mrs. Dash (salt-free seasoning) is generally a safer option.
