I Use Cheat Days To Stay Disciplined On Weight Loss Before My Diagnosis. Can I Still Have A Cheat Meal Every Now And Then? Ckd Outlook 4 Me?

DevinBrown

I'm 27, CKD2, have been on a weight loss journey prior to the diagnosis. It's suspected to be due to high blood pressure.

My blood pressure seems controlled overall. If I keep myself in good shape is there a chance I can live to old age and stopping progression?

While controlled "cheat meals" aren't strictly forbidden with IgAN/CKD2, it's better to think of them as "planned flexible meals" that still respect your kidney-friendly diet limits. Keep sodium, protein, and phosphorus in check. The good news? With controlled BP, healthy weight management, and good habits, many IgAN patients can significantly slow progression. Your young age and early diagnosis are advantages. Focus on consistent healthy choices rather than strict-then-binge patterns.

Always consult your nephrologist about specific dietary plans, as individual needs vary with IgAN. Consider working with a renal dietitian to create a sustainable eating plan that feels less restrictive.
